Quiet week

Been a quiet week here and we haven't been doing too much. Greg and I headed out to the coastal suburb of Sumner because people had told us the beach down there was nicer then the one out our front door. Though it had some interesting features such as cave rock, which we both climbed, overall it seemed pretty much the same as New Brighton. Though in talking with locals we learned a rather disturbing development. Since we had arrived we had been seeing large boats or barges in the distance from our beach and often wondered on what their purpose was. A local recently told us that those boats were part of a crew building a large sewage tunnel from the city out into the ocean to dump treated sewage water. We had previously noted signs warning of treated sewage water dumping, but it was rather depressing to know they had built a huge pipe line to dump out into the ocean along our coastline. I had rather thought the Kiwi's more environmental then this, but like a lot here, things aren't as they initially seem.

We've decided not to do too much for Easter because we'd rather save resources to attempt a trip to the west coast of the South Island. So overall its been a rather uneventful week with not much to report. Here's some pictures from Sumner. Enjoy and have a good holiday weekend everyone! :)
